BMW X7 In-depth review Part 1

The BMW X7 is a full size SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) manufactured by the German car manufacturer BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke). The BMW X7 is the flagship car/SUV in it's portfolio with undoubtedly has all the bells and whistles comprising a plethora of luxury amenities and top class features with all round safety features as well. It's the largest, longest, widest and the most expensive car in the BMW line-up across the globe.

The BMW X7 was first unveiled by BMW in March, 2014 in Munich, Germany. Also the X7 is one of the heaviest SUV in it's segment with a maximum kerb weight of whopping 2,600 kgs! Certainly this beast has been induced with a very powerful engine both in Diesel & Petrol respectively.

DESIGN:- A typical and quintessential BMW design with the twin-kidney grille at the front gives the X7 a very comprehensive and a sporty appeal. But this design is however not liked by many as now the trend going besides BMW cars are just about their expanding kidney grilles i.e most of the part of the front end are eaten up by the kidney grilles.The lights also looks damn good and are the typical BMW Laser Lights with a light reach of approximately 600m.

The front end truly gives this beast a mammoth road presence and while all the cars around looking tiny in front of this car.

PRICE:- This SUV, as told earlier is the most expensive car in the BMW lineup and this beast starts at a range of Rs. 96 Lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi) and goes up all the way upto Rs. 1.66 cr (ex-showroom New Delhi). That's a quite alot of money; isn't it?

VARIANTS:- The X7 has 5 variants ( 3 Diesel; 2 Petrol) namely the X7 XDrive 30d DPE (DIESEL), the X7 XDrive 30d DPE Signature (DIESEL), the X7 M50d (DIESEL) & the X7 XDrive 40i (PETROL) and the Alpina XB7 (Petrol)

The suspension set-up in the BMW X7 is exquisite as it's the best in the business. The suspension setup literally flattens away all the pot-holes and the rough surfaces and it's analogous to travelling on a flying carpet. It's extremely comfortable.

EQUIPMENT ON-BOARD

The BMW X7 is available in Design Pure Excellence and M Sport trims respectively.

Standard equipment includes Vernasca leather, four-zone (4) climate control, BMW iDrive 7.0, Adaptive LED-Laser headlights, wireless charging, and electrically adjustable and heated three row seating. The middle row features three seats with a two-seat configuration are also available. The X7 also receives driver assistance systems (DAS) including autonomous cruise control and collision detection with braking intervention. Other options include cooled and heated cup holders, a panoramic sunroof with LED light patterns, and laser headlights. An off-road package adds selectable off-road driving modes and adjusts the ride height, acceleration and transmission response, and traction control system (ESP). Also needless to say that the X7 has key-less entry plus leather trapped multi-functional steering wheel respectively.

The instrument cluster features a camera to ensure the driver is paying attention to the road while autonomous functions are active & allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel for up to one minute. Additionally it has a Optional head up display that in many other vehicles it normally fits just the speed, however because of the size of the BMW headup display; it also shows a clear map with navigation instructions, rendering the information center somewhat pointless to the driver.

PRACTICALITY ON-BOARD:- The BMW X7 being a full size SUV means it's going to be practical for the people travelling in it. It comes with a standard boot carrying capacity of 232L-330L (Without folding the 3-row). Also the boot of the X7 is electrically operated both by hands and by the BMW key. There is no loading lip to lift stuffs over respectively. Inside the X7 there is a multitude of bottle holders and each can carry minimum 1L of water bottle respectively. The seats are extremely supportive and are of nappa-leathers with huge bol-string in the front two driver seats. Undoubteldy the X7 is extremely well sound insulated from inside i.e once you are in the X7 you can barely hear a noise from the outside world. The glove-box inside the X7 is obviously cooled plus its also lockable from outside which is a nice touch. Overall the X7 being a performance based car is also perhaps very practical indeed.
